Keeping the Balance

The Balancing Act: We all do it - juggle friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors; trying to keep everyone happy.  Just staying in touch can be draining; but, it really shouldn't be!  Relationships are supposed to add to your life; not suck the life right out of you! We have great ideas for how you can simplify your relationships and be a better friend, caregiver, family member and parent.

Mom's Rules for Love & Life:

Do you ever stop and think - Could I be a better friend, partner, or family member? Below are some easy tips to help you love the people you love - even better.

Rules to Live by for Mom: Sometimes we get so busy in our roles with the many hats we wear we forget we are raising little humans that emulate our every move and habit. Follow these rules to be a better mom:

1. I will not talk on my cell phone while shopping with my kids.

2. I will talk to my kids in the car instead of being on the phone or letting time pass with silence.

3. I will remember to talk to them at eye level when they need my attention.

4. After work, I will spend time with my kids before digging into mail, or returning calls.

5. I will plan at least one outing or special family activity with my kids each week.

6. I will get my kids up earlier so we can spend quality time before all of our days begin.

7. I will always find time to listen and care.

8. I will kiss always.

9. I will hug more

10. I will enjoy being a mom. The Greatest Job on Earth!

RELATIONSHIP TIP:

Do you know that friends could help you live longer? It's true! Good friends usually discourage unhealthy behaviors. A good friendship can also help fight off depression and boost self-esteem. A friend is your support system that you go to for advice and to talk over life's issues.

Also, as people get older they become more selective with who they spend their time with. I call this process "trimming the fat". Get rid of any negative influences around you; surround yourself with positive, uplifting and caring people who add to your life,  put a smile on your face and not a worry in your heart.

Keep your priorities straight

Take ten minutes out of your busy day to let everything else slip away, and give your undivided attention to your family. Don't feel pressured to plan a big family event to spend time together. It only takes a few minutes of looking into each other's eyes, talking, laughing, and hugging, to reconnect. It will make your child or spouse feel special and important, and it will help you to keep your priorities straight.
